Top five African Safaris

WALKING WITH BUSHMEN: rated SUPERB

The first of the Top Five walks is the Namibian walking safari - Walking with Bushmen. This is the type of walking safari that I have tried to find all over Africa - a genuine, gritty walk, working closely with your guides to trap or catch dinner and survive in the bush. I suggest this walking holiday only to experienced Africa travellers.

FOOTSTEPS SAFARI: rated SUPERB

The second of the Top Five walks is the Footsteps safari in Botswana. This is a genuine, gritty walking camp in the Okavango Delta that can allow for some of the best game viewing and tracking on foot in Botswana. As with all African walking safaris, a fair level of fitness is required on this one.

KILIMANJARO RONGAI TREK: rated SUPERB

The third of the Top Five walks is the five night, six day Rongai route group climb. Kilimanjaro is Africa's highest peak and also the mountain that claims the most lives every year. The Rongai route is in our opinion the safest, least travelled route on the mountain with overnights at the 'right' altitudes. This is a tough mountain walking safari holiday; walkers need to prepare themselves physically as well as mentally to succeed in reaching Ururu peak

BLACK RHINO TRACKING: rated SUPERB

The fourth of the Top Three African safaris is the Namibian Black Rhino tracking safari. This safari experience is a combination of walking and being on the safari vehicle, while following the tracks and sign of desert black rhino, with the help of Save The Rhino tracking staff. A percentage of the cost of the safari is donated to Save the Rhino.

MOUNT MAKAROT DAY HIKE: rated SUPERB

Number five of our top walks is this one day African cultural hike. This trip is best as part of a longer road safari. The route over the summit of Mount Makarot is challenging, but suitable for even the moderately fit walker. The mountain hike is lead by a Masai warrior and the views of the Serengeti plains from the summit of the volcano are just stupendous. This African mountain hike is a must do for anyone on a road safari around Tanzania or Africa.
