South Africa has always been viewed as the wealthy neighbour by most African countries south of the equator. South Africa is great for investors and manufacturers, but perhaps not so great for people seeking open expanses of wilderness that other less populace countries can boast.

Amid all these populace areas of South Africa, there are still a few pockets that offer interesting walking experiences - perhaps not from a wildlife viewing perspective - but of interest to the more physically active walker.

South Africa is a very real option for those who feel that they are perhaps not yet ready to commit to some of the challenges that the experiences of a walking safari further north on the continent will throw up.

Cape Town in South Africa also serves as an ideal place to acclimatize back to civilization if you have been off on one of the more challenging South African Walking Safaris in really remote areas. Lots of hot water, restaurants and the laid back city.
